What’s happening to the FREE version of the ROAD iD App?
Technically speaking, the FREE App that you have installed on your phone now will continue to work through the end of 2021. This said, when we launch the PAID version of the App in mid-October, both Google and Apple will require us to remove the FREE version from the App store. This does not mean the FREE App will stop working in October. It does, however, mean that we will no longer be able to support, update, or add features to the FREE App. To get the most updated features, you will need to install the newer PAID version of the App. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on when and how to update to the new version.
Can I simply update my existing FREE App to the PAID version?
We wish you could. Unfortunately, the Google and Apple App stores won’t allow us to do this. Instead, they require us to remove/delist the FREE App from the App Stores and Publish a completely separate PAID App. This means that you’ll have to go to the App Store to download and install the new version when it becomes available.
When do I need to install the new PAID version of the App?
The new version will become available in mid-November. We’ll be sure to let you know via email (and via messaging inside your current App) when the new App is available for download. As stated above, the FREE version will continue working until the end of the year...but we will recommend updating to the new version in order to take advantage of the latest features and updates.
When will I be charged $2.99?
There will be no charge until January. The new PAID App will be FREE for the rest of 2021. This gives us another three months to continue enhancing the App before we ask you to pay for it. And, it gives you the remainder of 2021 to determine if the App is delivering enough value for you to consider paying for it.
Will there be a discount for an annual subscription?
Yes. You will be able to choose between $2.99/month and $29.99/year - which essentially gives you 2 months free.
Will I be able to pause or cancel my membership if I no longer need or want the App?
Absolutely. We hate it when companies make it hard to pause or cancel subscriptions. Our goal is to make it very easy for you to have 100% control of your subscription.
Why should I install and use the new App?
What about all my App history and account settings?
Good Question. When you migrate to the new App, your login details will NOT change. And, all of your history, settings, and custom information will be there for you when you log in. We’re working hard to make this migration as simple as possible for you.
Will my Guardians have to pay anything?
No. Your Guardians will not need to pay anything. They will continue receiving your eCrumb Activities and Updates via text message or email...just like they do today.
What do I need to do right now?
If you haven't done so already, you should install the new ROAD iD App. Simply search for "ROAD iD" in your phone's App Store. After you install the New App, be sure to uninstall the OLD App.
Remind me why you decided to start charging for the ROAD iD App?
Long story short, it’s really expensive to build, maintain, and support an App like ours. And, since we’re not a giant corporation with huge vaults of cash lying around, we needed to find a way to support the future of this awesome App. By charging a small fee, we’ll be able to dedicate a team of people and lots of resources to making it an incredible App that does what it’s supposed to do: Save Lives, Provide Peace of Mind, Fuel Adventure.
How did you come up with the $2.99 price point?
We want to charge as low a price as possible...because, at our core, we’ve always put Purpose over Profit. In other words, we want to impact as many lives as possible...and we know that a lower price point would help us achieve this. At the same time, it had to be high enough to cover the myriad of development, maintenance, infrastructure, staffing, and service costs associated with the App. With this in mind, we conducted a survey and found that almost 70% of our existing users we’re happy to pay somewhere between $2/month and $10/month for the App. We didn’t want to charge more just because we could, so we selected a lower $2.99 price because, again, we want as many people to use it as possible. As more people use it, the more we pay off our purpose: Saving Lives, Providing Peace of Mind, Fueling Adventure.
