We’ve got a bit of super fun intel. We know what you name your dogs and cats based on what you engrave on your pet name tags. Some of you go formal: Mr. Bear and Mr. Shadow. Many of you clearly love the movies, naming your pets everything from Gremlin and Hermione to Ewok. Others go for unique names like Skittles and Mittens.
But we wanted to know: What are the most common dog names? And cats, too? After scouring our records, we identified the top 10 names for dogs and cats. Read on to find out if your pet’s name made the list.
Drum roll, please! The number one most popular name for dogs and cats is Bella. It’s pretty fitting, really. The Italian word for beautiful. The main character from that one popular vampire book and movie series that shall remain nameless. Oh, and we see you fellow Harry Potter fan who noted that Bella is short for Bellatrix (Bellatrix Lestrange, we presume).
Second place goes to a classic: Charlie. (OK, a few of you renegades prefer Charley on your pet identity tags.) But no matter how you spell it, we can picture you calling it out at the dog park or on a nice, long Saturday morning hike. Or maybe saying, “Good boy, Charlie” or “Good girl, Charlie” along with some serious ear scratches. It’s a good, solid choice.
Here, Max! Come here, Max! It just has a nice ring to it, right? It’s also the title character in a movie from a few years back about a heroic military service dog. Or, you know, maybe you’re more of a Mad Max movie fan. No judgment. Whatever your inspiration, we’re equal opportunity Max lovers around the ROAD iD office. Big dogs. Small dogs. Cats. Pure breeds. Mutts. We want to pet all the pets named Max.
At least one of you Lucy owners is a Beatles fan and engraved “Lucy in the sky” on your pet ID tags. Hat tip to you, sir or madam. And who can forget the classic Peanuts character, Lucy? She offers up psychiatric advice for the low, low price of 5 cents. Though we find, the more time you spend with your pets, the less time you need to spend asking for advice. We bet all those Lucy dogs and cats out there are seriously lowering their owners’ stress levels.
Time flies. We’re halfway through this list, but the hits keep coming. Maggie strikes us as a timeless choice, and the perfect name for any furry BFF. There’s a pretty impressive list of famous people and characters named Maggie: Maggie Simpson, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Maggie Smith to name a few. Your pet definitely has a name with star quality.
Ah, Cooper. We’re guessing many of the Coopers out there are wise beyond their dog or cat years. Old souls in furry bodies who give sad, meaningful looks whenever their owners are eating snacks. Or, you know, the total opposite. Young pups and kittens tearing through the house like mini tornadoes trying to experience all life has to offer.
This one hits close to heart and home. Scout is the namesake dog for our nearly indestructible pet id tags. And a long-time fixture around the ROAD iD office. Here’s one of our favorite pics of a young Scout with ROAD iD co-founder Edward Wimmer on his wedding day. OK, we’ll stop the mushy nostalgia and just add, y’all have good taste in dog names. Extra pets, treats and walks for all the Scouts out there, OK?
It’s super clear how much all the Daisy owners out there love their pets. We’ve engraved pet tags with “Daisy Mae” and even “Daisy Beautiful Daisy.” We’re picturing long games of fetch at the park on a perfect spring or fall day. Or maybe a super playful cat who just might start clawing the furniture when you go in the other room.
This one strikes us as a super sweet name for super sweet, extra cuddly dogs. A few of you spell this Sadey on your pet tags and one lucky owner even went with “Sadie Bug.” We can picture the mid-winter snuggling right now! You do let Sadie on the couch to snuggle into the blankets with you, right? Furniture privileges just seem to go along with this name.
Gracie, Luna and Bailey
It was an incredibly competitive race for the final spot on this top 10 list. But once we tallied the names on all our tags for pets, this contest ended in a three-way tie among Gracie, Luna and Bailey. We like to imagine one of you out there has three pets, each with one of these lovely names. It definitely sounds like a happy pet pack to us.
Do you have a pet with one of these names? Or another creative pet name? We’d love pics of them sporting their ROAD iD Pet ID. Drop us a line at: CustomerService@ROADiD.com.
