I can't tell you exactly what happened, because I have complete amnesia for the crash and also some time before and after. I learned later that a motorist saw me go down and called 911. I was unconscious at first, and then really woozy, but the policeman and EMTs got the information off my Road ID to contact my wife. A Road ID is useful even if you are conscious, as emergency service people can verify what you tell them.
Of course I wear a helmet, but I evidently smashed my noggin but good. I was really out of it for a couple of days. Several days after the accident I called the policeman who helped me to thank him. I also wanted to ask him some questions to figure out what happened. Well, I still don't know how I crashed, but he said of Road ID, "I can't recommend them strongly enough." It made his tough job easier. "ALWAYS carry ID," said the policeman.
My brother-in-law wrote to me, "I didn't intend for you to use it, it was just supposed to be for peace of mind!"
Thanks, John, and thanks to Road ID.
