Earlier this year, I had a sudden cardiac arrest while out for a bike ride. My Road ID enabled the first responders to reach my family quickly, which allowed me to be transferred to a hospital with a hypothermia treatment facility. This 24 hour cooling procedure, if administered within 12 hours of a cardiac arrest,has been shown to significantly improve recovery prospects. My wife is a doctor, and after working an overnight shift, she had just gone to sleep when I left for my ride. If I hadn't had multiple contact numbers on my Road ID, it might have been many more hours before they could have started the hypothermia treatment.I now have defibrillator implanted in my chest, but otherwise I've made a 100% recovery and am back to riding.
