I was in so much pain I couldn't talk...

By the time EMS showed up, I was in so much pain I could hardly talk. My friend handed my Road ID to the EMS guys and one of them said "I love these things." They used my ID to retrieve the info they needed to start giving me pain meds and get me into the system.
I was recently out for a long run with my team, training for the 2016 Austin Half Marathon. There was a patch of uneven surface on the road and it got me - hard. My teammates came running from a nearby water stop. Ignorantly, NONE of us had a phone so my friend took my Road ID and ran to a convenience store to call 911 and my partner.

UPDATE: I ended up breaking my right ankle in three places and my left ankle in two places. I'll be deferring my entry to the 2016 Austin Half, but I look forward to running my fourth half marathon in 2017!
