Lesson Learned!

I learned a valuable lesson on New Years Day - to ALWAYS carry ID - even on those really short rides. I didn't have any ID on me that day, but I'll never go without ID again!!
I learned a valuable lesson on New Years Day - to ALWAYS carry ID - even on those really short rides. I didn't have any ID on me that day, but I'll never go without ID again!!Let me tell you what happened. A group of us got together to go for a fun 10 mile Polar Ride on a local trail (it got its name due to the fact that it was cold -really cold). Brian (a recent Ironman finisher) and Joe were a few of the first riders at the turnaround. When I saw them there I pulled up next to Brian to say Hi. In seconds, Brian was falling over onto me and I was falling over onto Jim who was next to me (like dominos). I looked over to see what happened with Brian (thinking he just didn't unclip from his pedal) and saw that he was on the ground unconscious. Seconds later he began to seize - head hitting the ground and body tightening up. Those with cell phones called 911, meanwhile we weren't sure what was causing the problem. Thankfully, Brian awoke and was able to answer questions. If he hadn't, we would have had to use the Road ID that he always wears - I certainly would not have known what tell the paramedics.

That day I realized, for the first time, that I'd be in trouble if anything ever happened to me because I didn't carry ID. I got one shortly after the experience. Now, I NEVER leave home for a workout without it. I now encourage all my friends and riding partners to wear ID. Thanks.
