“For it is in giving that we receive.” - St. Francis of Assisi
Marnie shared her story with us in a voicemail, and she has graciously allowed us to share it with you. Marnie’s message illustrates that the gifts we give are often returned to us in ways we never imagine:
Marnie P. of Wisconsin is an active, vibrant woman. She comes by this naturally. Her mother, Shirley, enjoyed her retirement to the hilt. She was not one to rock away her remaining years on the porch. She enjoyed luncheon dates with friends and dinners with family. She was a part of her community, regularly walking 5-10 miles a day.
So when Shirley's 80th birthday came around, Marnie wanted to give something unique, personal, and useful. While going through the ideas of possible presents, Marnie realized the perfect gift idea was strapped on her own wrist: a ROAD iD. As a physician, Marnie knows first hand of the importance of readily available emergency contact information.
When the family gathered to celebrate Shirley’s special day, Marnie gave her the gift of her own Road iD:
Shirley wore her ID all of the time. She had peace of mind that her loved ones would be notified in the event of an emergency. Like all forms of insurance, she hoped she would never need it, but it was good to know it was there if she did.
About a year later on an ordinary day in April, Shirley was running some errands. After lunch, she fell ill when she suffered a cardiac event. She was rushed to the local hospital. Shirley’s kids were notified immediately because of her ROAD iD.
When they arrived at the hospital, they were told that Shirley was in grave condition. Marnie and her siblings surrounded their mother with love and comfort as she passed away. As Marnie stood next to her mother's bed, she realized she had been given a priceless gift: to be there when it matters most. This precious time is something that Marnie will treasure for the rest of her life.
