We were at a semi-local outside mall, and the kids were using the restroom together. They didn't know to turn left when they exited the restroom and turned right instead...wandering off into an unknown area.
They became confused and panicked. Luckily they found a police officer nearby. Both kids told him exactly what happened and showed him their ROAD iDs which had our phone numbers engraved on them. The officer was highly impressed that the kids had the ROAD iDs.
He called and told us who he was, where he was located, and that both kids were with him. Now it was our turn to panic!
We were reunited within 2 minutes of the phone call. The total time must have been about 10-15 minutes that we were separated, but a lot can happen in that time!
Our oldest son is autistic (high functioning) and has ADHD. His ROAD iD has his name, DOB, his mom and dad's contact information, and it also says "AUTISTIC / ADHD / ON MEDS."
"That little bit of information makes a HUGE difference," the officer said.
In case of an emergency, we KNOW that first responders WILL look for medical information, and this fits the bill wonderfully!
